The Project Engineer is responsible for independently managing components of engineering projects and providing technical expertise in design, permitting, and construction services. The role involves close coordination with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects meet technical requirements, schedules, and budget expectations. This position requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, growing leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review civil engineering designs for water and wastewater facilities.
- Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, construction plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
- Lead or support permit preparation and submission for local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate with survey, drafting, and GIS teams to integrate accurate base data and develop complete plan sets.
- Conduct site visits to support data collection, feasibility analysis, and construction phase services.
- Respond to agency and client comments and revise plans and reports accordingly.
- Provide oversight and mentoring to junior engineers and interns.
- Communicate directly with clients, attend meetings, and represent the firm in a professional and technical capacity.
- Monitor assigned project budgets and timelines, and coordinate deliverables with project managers.
- Maintain organized project records, including digital and hardcopy files.
- Adhere to company safety protocols and quality assurance/quality control procedures.
- Foster a team-oriented environment and uphold the company’s brand values.
- Maintain professional certifications in fields of expertise, as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience of permitting and regulatory requirements in PA, including PADEP Clean Water Program and Public Water Supply Program.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field of study.
- Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate in Pennsylvania
- Experience: Minimum of four (4) years job-related experience. Knowledge in Wastewater Collection and Treatment, Water Treatment and Distribution, Act 537 Planning, Water Quality Management Permitting, Public Water Supply Permitting
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
- Strong understanding of local and state permitting processes, codes, and engineering standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, and other external sources.
- Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or ArcGIS preferred but not required.
- PADEP water and/or wastewater operator’s license highly desirable but not required.
